In the mid-20th century, peat extraction took place here, but beneath it, hydrogen sulfide mineral waters were discovered, which led to the cessation of extraction in 1960. When peat extraction ended, the water pumping was stopped, and picturesque reservoirs formed in place of the quarries.<\/p>\n

Although peat extraction has been discontinued, the drainage systems still affect the swamp’s water regime. Cormorants, or sea crows, have made this place their home, building nests on the dead trees, giving the landscape a surreal atmosphere.<\/p>\n
