Description
Join us and enjoy the reed and island labyrinths of the Great Ķemeri bog lake! Fill your weekend with adventures! The bog offers beautiful landscapes, and paddling is a great way to experience it!
On the eastern edge of the Great Ķemeri bog, a peat extraction site was started during the Soviet era. However, after 2000, when a wetland restoration project was implemented, it was flooded. In the flooded area, a labyrinth of channels and islands has formed, creating a unique and unusual landscape.
During the daytime excursion, you can best observe the variety of landscapes – from low-lying grassy swamps to transitional areas, as well as the plants, shrubs, and trees characteristic of high bog marshes. In spring, the blooming rhododendrons (genus Rhododendron) will delight the eyes, while in summer, it’s the white water lilies.
From August 15th to November 15th, there is a prohibition on boating in the lakes of the Great Ķemeri Bog Boardwalk due to migrating birds heading there to roost. However, it is allowed to be in the bog lakes during the daytime.
