Svitene from Vairogi to Stalģene

Categories: ,

Description

The Svitene is a tributary of the left side of the Lielupe river, it starts as a drain to the west of Triškoņi in Linkuva seņunija. The riverbed upstream to the village of Svitene and downstream from the P94 road is regulated, straightened. In the middle section, the river curves through a faint valley, and for 1 km the Svitene is the border river between Latvia and Lithuania.

In spring water, the river has practically no shores, the water flows seamlessly into carefully maintained fields. The lack of shores opens up the landscape to the horizon. At times, the river ahead of you is like a giant slalom, with 3-4 bends of the river ahead as you gently descend the hill. It looks more like boats gliding in a well-kept field. First to one side, then the other. The farms on the shores of Svitene fit very well into the landscape. Birch avenues and other dendrological plantings intertwine with the cultivated fields of the agricultural technology peaks.

The boat trip will start in Vairogi, Rundāle municipality, pass through Jaunsvirlauka and end at the P94 highway bridge near Staļģene in Jelgava municipality.

Trip length: 20km
Trip duration: 5 hours

The route is easy, navigable only in spring at high water level.

The day before the trip, by 12:00, you will receive an informative email from Ozolaivas!
