Lieluper river from Mežotne to Staļģene

Description

Standing on the Mežotne castle hill and looking where the Lielupe river flows, you will be mesmerized. Before you set off, it is worth visiting the Mežotne church, which is located next to the castle hill, and walking up the wooden footbridge to the Vīna (wine) hill.

The boat trip starts at the Mazmežotne manor, on the shore of the Lielupe river opposite the park of Mežotne castle and ends at Staļģene. This section of the Lielupe river still has a noticeable current and a number of cultural, historical and natural monuments.

5.8 km from Mežotne Castle hill on the right shore of the Lielupe river you can stop in the bay at the Zizma river ravine for a small lunch break, but after 12 km, on the right side, opposite the Īslīce river mouth, you will see the ruins of the Salgale church (~200 m from the shore).

The route is easy, with a gentle current, suitable for beginners and families with children.
The route is navigable throughout the whole season. The route can be extended or shortened as desired.
