Misa
The Misa river is a right tributary of the Iecava – it is 113 km long, with a 42 m drop. Misa begins its course in Valle municipality, where its upper reaches are regulated by a network of ditches. The upper reaches of the Misa are in the Upmale plain in the central Latvian lowlands, while the lower reaches are in the Tīreļi plain. The Misa ends its flow in Iecava near Ozolnieki. The river flows through woodlands and plains, providing habitat for a variety of aquatic animals – beavers, water rats and mink. The banks of the Misa are home to several bogs, such as Beibežu, Lādzēnu and Apšusala. Boating along the Misa, near Bauska, you will see the “Dzērumi” summer house district on its banks, through this summer house district the Misa carries boats for about 9 kilometres, flowing along 2 pedestrian bridges – at one of which you can see an impressive larg tree that can be grasped by 4 people. The river then leads into a fairly straight, wooded stretch with steep banks. Here, the river delights its guests with unspoilt views of nature. The Misa is an opportunity to enjoy the charm of nature, the birds and streams as you glide lazily through the calm waters of the Misa. The Misa is like a hidden jewel in the heart of Zemgale.
The lower reaches are navigable throughout the whole season, the upper reaches only at high water level.
